Why is there a 400 cc Reference Bladder Image?
Answer
400 cc is the bladder size that many urologists use as a guideline for when back pressure into the kidneys typically occurs. If the patient does not void, kidney damage can occur. The specific amount that each patient experiences back pressure will be different. 400 cc is a typical number. If a patient is at 300 cc they will be experiencing back pressure within 30 minutes depending on how much fluid they have ingested. See Q11 to learn how you can add / modify and annotate reference images for your specific needs. |

What is the typical use scenario in a Long Term Care facility?
Answer
Patients in a Long Term Care facility can have urge incontinence, meaning they lose the urge to void their bladder. This can happen for a number of reasons: medications, neurological issues, or from an operation on the abdomen. The inability of knowing when to void can cause kidney damage, urinary tract infections, and patient linen cleaning issues. Patients who have urge incontinence are typically scanned three times a day to determine if their bladder is reasonably full. If it is determined to be full, the patient is asked to void. If after voiding a significant amount remains, the clinician may consider ordering catheterization to remove the excess urine. |

You may add and delete reference images. Capture the desired image using the Adv Scan Tab. Press Save Image and select the Reference folder under the Documents/SeeMore Data Folder. How do I make bladder volume measurements?
Answer
See Q17 to enable measurements on the main Auto Scan Tab. Select the desired patient using the up and down blue arrows. Start the exam by pressing the green arrow pointing to the patient name. Now press the green arrow next to "Start bladder volume calculations" and follow the prompts to complete the bladder volume measurement. To save the exam and generate a report that can be printed later, press the yellow button next to the patient's name.
You can also make measurements without selecting a patient or generating a report under the Measure Tab - simply select Start and you will see the prompts to make the height, width, and thickness measurements of the bladder. The three measurements will display on the screen as you take them. The calculated volume will be displayed after the thickness measurement is completed. |

What about HIPAA and security of patient data?
Answer
Interson ViewBladder 10 does not include electronic signature control and is not meant to substitute for an electronic medical record. Ultrasound images, patient data files, and reports may include identifying patient information. HIPAA regulations and other patient privacy and regulatory standards require that users take reasonable care to protect this information. It is important that you comply with your own hospital or clinic HIPAA guidelines regarding privacy and safeguarding patient information. You may choose to redirect the storage to a USB thumb drive to avoid leaving data on the ViewBladder 10. You can select the image store location under the Settings Tab. |

Static (still) images are stored as both .jpg and .bs (high resolution) files – the latter can only be viewed with ViewBladder via the “Load Image” feature under the Adv. Scan Tab. .jpg files (found within Patient Folders) can be viewed with any image editing software by clicking on the file. Cine loops give you the ability to replay up to 256 of the most recent frames. Saved Cine loops may only be viewed with ViewBladder 10, using the "Save Cine" and “Load Cine” buttons under the Adv.Scan Tab. |

How do I print hardcopies of images?
Answer
Although many users choose to store images digitally rather than print them out, you can print directly from ViewBladder by selecting File (upper left of screen), then Print, using a standard Windows printer. You can also right click on the .jpg images within SeeMore Data/Patient Folder, and select the print function. Because there is so much black space in an ultrasound image, it is suggested that you print a smaller image rather than full page in order to conserve ink. To print patient reports see Q6. |

Can I use ViewBladder 10 as a standard ultrasound system for viewing other internal structures?

Although ViewBladder 10 is an ultrasound system, its features and capabilities are targeted to Bladder Scanning PVR. ViewBladder 10 does not have all of the diagnostic features that other full featured ultrasound systems include. |

Q27
Is there a CPT reimbursement code for bladder scanning using ViewBladder 10?
| |
Reimbursement for routine bladder scans in a Skilled Nursing Facility was removed when the codes changed from G0050 to 51798 in January 2003. 76857 can be used for analysis of specific bladder issues but not for determining Post Void Residual. The ROI (return on investment) on ViewBladder 10 is not justified based on reimbursement. Minimizing UTIs can justify ViewBladder 10 in less than a year. Your sales rep can provide you with an ROI worksheet. |
